The alienation started was when I met Yoko, and people do not seem to like people getting a divorce, you know. It’s alright to do it quietly, but we can’t do it quietly. And so everyone has this impression that, you know “John’s gone crazy” but all I did was fall in love, like a lot of people do who are already married, who marry somebody very young.

What I miss most about John is his incredible tenderness and his belief in me. Love can sometimes be hell. You’ could abuse each other in the name of love. But the thing that worked in our relationship was that we never lost respect for each other and always made sure to express it. We loved each other like there was no tomorrow. When you think of it now, there was something so intense about it, as if we knew we didn’t have much time.

John Lennon’s thoughts on his love for Yoko Ono and what and how much she means to him.

I’d say it’s more on Yoko’s music and art and its influence on his own work, but in any case. (Probably NSFW: John says “fuck” like 15 times.)

JL: Everybody seemed to be paranoid except for us two, who were in the glow of love. You know, everything’s clear and open when you’re in love. When everybody’s sort of was tense around us and, you know, “What is she doing here at the session?” or “Why is she with him?”. And all this sort of madness is going on around us because we just happened to want to be together all the time.

I play John’s songs all the time, but mainly because (musicians) are asking if they can do this song or that. But I don’t listen for pleasure. When I do, it chokes me up to remember when it was written

For ten years I was the devil. Now I’m an angel. Did the world have to lose John for people to change their opinion of me? It’s unreal. If it brought John back, I’d rather be hated.

One of the most moving things about the whole experience was seeing the connection between John and Yoko. To sit in that room as they would talk about each other and watch their eye contact, you could feel the magnetism. I know they had their ups and downs in that relationship like everyone in a relationship does. But these were people that are connected and meant to be together. It was pretty powerful. You could feel it in the room. To me, that was one of the things I did not expect.

Here was John Lennon, who had accomplished as much as any artist could hope to accomplish, and yet what was his message? The part of John’s message about his love for Yoko, what had given him sustenance and what had given him grounding after a life of ups and downs and struggles, none of that contentment could be faked. I don’t think I’ve ever been with two people who were more devoted to each other, more in love, more obsessed and infatuated with each other.
